Motegi [Japan], October 7: It was a challenging weekend for the Repsol Honda Team at Mobility Resort Motegi, with Luca Marini recovering to finish 14th, while Joan Mir's race ended prematurely on the first lap.

The Japanese GP weekend was marked by fluctuating conditions and fortunes for the Repsol Honda Team, who worked diligently to maximize their performance. A brief rain shower during the Moto2 race and the white flag being waved during the MotoGP race led to speculation about using wet bikes; however, the entire 24-lap race was ultimately run on slick tires.

Luca Marini delivered a determined performance, battling his way through the field after a difficult start. Initially falling back, he steadily gained positions, ultimately crossing the line in 14th place and adding to his points tally for 2024. Despite the weekend's challenges, Marini found satisfaction in his performance, as he and the Repsol Honda Team continue to build confidence toward the end of the season.

In contrast, Joan Mir's race was cut short. He made a strong start, finding himself in 14th place after half a lap and poised to challenge for a top-ten finish. Unfortunately, he was struck from behind by Alex Marquez, resulting in a crash. Although he escaped injury, Mir left Japan feeling disappointed after the promising start to the weekend.

After three consecutive races, the Repsol Honda Team will take a well-deserved one-week break before returning for another three-race run. The action resumes on October 18 at Phillip Island, where the Australian GP will take place.

"I enjoyed the battles in the back today! I lost quite a bit of time and many positions on the first lap, so it turned into a race of recovery. We knew it would be tough from the start, so finishing P13 and P14 today feels like an achievement. I think my rear tire choice could have been better, which might have helped us gain a bit more. Nonetheless, we learn and will be better prepared next year. Now, we’ll rest and recover before the next big three races," said Honda rider Luca Marini, who finished 14th.

Joan Mir shared, "I overtook Alex Marquez at Turn 11 after he went wide, but then he made contact with the rear of my bike at Turn 12, causing his bike to get stuck between my seat and the wheel. I had to run off and ended up crashing. It’s unfortunate because I felt strong in that first lap and believed we had the pace for something good."
