Lasbela [Balochistan], October 21: The Baloch Yakjehti Committee, in collaboration with the Baloch Solidarity Committee, is preparing to hold a large protest today to raise awareness about the alarming increase in enforced disappearances of Baloch youth and the violence faced by peaceful protesters in Karachi.
The demonstration is scheduled for 4 p.m. outside the Lasbela Press Club.
In a post on X, the Baloch Yakjehti Committee announced, "On behalf of the Baloch Solidarity Committee, a protest demonstration will be organized at Hub Chowki. The aim of the protest is to voice opposition to the rising enforced disappearances of Baloch youth by the state, as well as the violence and enforced disappearances of peaceful protesters in Karachi. We urge all schools of thought in Hub Chowki to participate fully in this crucial protest to show solidarity against this oppression."
The Baloch Solidarity Committee advocates for the rights of the Baloch people, primarily in Pakistan, focusing on issues such as human rights violations, cultural preservation, and political autonomy for the Baloch population. It frequently raises concerns about resource exploitation in Balochistan and seeks to bring attention to the challenges faced by the Baloch community.
Enforced disappearance in Balochistan is a serious human rights issue involving the abduction of individuals—often political activists, journalists, or ordinary citizens—by state authorities or military personnel, with their locations deliberately concealed.
This practice stems from ongoing political tensions in the region, where Baloch nationalist groups are demanding greater autonomy and control over local resources. In response, the Pakistani state has employed heavy-handed tactics, including military operations that systematically target dissenting voices.
The societal impact is significant, fostering a climate of fear that suppresses political expression and undermines trust in state institutions. Families of the disappeared often endure harassment and live in a state of uncertainty and sorrow, leading them to organize and advocate for justice.
Despite extensive documentation of these violations by human rights organizations, enforced disappearances continue, underscoring the urgent need for accountability and the protection of human rights in Balochistan.
